When we say that reflexology is a holistic treatment it means the whole person-mind, body and emotions, is treated through the feet.
For example: if a person has Frozen Shoulder the reflexologist will begin with reflexes…
- To induce relaxation and bring the body into a state where it does its best self-healing.
- Then, work the reflexes to the shoulder to increase circulation and oxygen flow to the affected area.
- Work on the adrenal reflex to stimulate the release of cortisol (natural hydrocortisone) to reduce inflammation,
- Work other related reflexes (spine, neck and hips) to clear energy blockages which may be causing the problem and teach the client how to work on the chronic pain points to release endorphins (the body’s natural pain killer) to relieve pain between sessions.
All the systems of the body will be worked during a treatment in case a weakness or blockage in any one system is affecting another to cause the symptoms the client is experiencing.
We look at the response to other reflexes for clues as to why the problem exists.
Sometimes it may be unexpressed emotions stored in the body’s tissues that are the root of the problem. Emotional trauma in childhood can have long-lasting effects, affecting the nervous and immune response later in life. Chronic stress can cause a number of physical conditions. Injury and chronic pain can affect emotional and mental health.
The reflexologist will take into consideration all of these factors and give special attention to certain reflexes accordingly.
